Builders and architects are making sure that families are “Living” more in their square footage by creating open floor plans. The best way to approach a design in an open space is to create groupings based on their function.

A designer secret, is to use an ANCHOR, this would be an area rug which defines the space. It is also important to design areas with a purpose so the room does not look like scattered furniture with no intimacy.

Another often overlooked detail is furniture style and color the general rule of thumb here is, that all the furniture must work well together both in style and colors.

We usually say that if you can see it without opening and closing a door, it should match. That applies to window treatments and lighting as well in your open floor plan.

Essentially, your open floor plan is a large great room with many functions. Treat it as one beautiful room with designated areas and your home will bring you joy for many years to come.
